Before she wrote the book that changed it all for Germaine Greer she had a couple of unsuccessful tilts at fame. She tried her hand at becoming a TV personality by co-hosting a 1967 TV show which came to nothing called Twice a Fortnight. Despite her co-hosts being Monty Python's Michael Palin and the future Goodies Graham Garden and Bill Oddie the show failed to launch her to stardom.
The following year, 1968, she co-hosted a comedy show called Nice Time with Kenny Everett and Jonathan Routh. Again her star failed to rise.
In 1968 Germaine also popped up in a Martin Sharp film called Do You Love Me? Again, fame was not forthcoming off the back of that little effort.

Then in 1970 she wrote The Female Eunuch and the die was cast. She may not have realised it then but that book was going to propel Germaine into the stratosphere of stardom and make her a household name. I say she may not have realised it because she did pop up again in 1971 in the George Lazenby movie Universal Soldier but by then her fame was assured if not yet delivered and everything was about to change.
Just imagine how different things might have been if one of Germaine's initial reach for the stars and grasps at fame had delivered.
The rest, of course, is history and really just a bit boring.
