Hedy Lamarr - How do we love thee let us count the ways.

Heddy LamarrHedy Lamarr was, in every sense of the word, a superstar.  She was a groundbreaking actress, a libertine, a bon vivant, a marvelously inteligent woman who during her lifetime had six husbands.

She was the co-inventor of the frquency swithching technology that we still use in mobile phones and wireless internet today.  She was the first actress to appear completely nude in a main stream feature. The film was a Czech production made in 1933 entitled Ecstacy.

Aside from all the groundbreaking pioneering work she did in the area of motion pictures and her work in spread frequency radio she was incredibly hot.  She was once referred to as the World's Most Beautiful Woman and not without cause.

Theda Bara - How do we love thee let us count the ways.

Theda Bara is not a name familiar to most in the 21st Century but had you been around in the 1920s her name was inescapable particularly if you were a fan of the movies.

Theda Bara was a movie star in every sense of the word.  She was a scandal, a sensation and one of the most bankable stars of the silent era.

Yvonne De Carlo - How do we love thee let us count the ways.

Yvonne De Carlo in a sweater
Yvonne De Carlo had a career in film and television spanning six decades.  She was the recipient of not one but two stars on the Hollywood Boulevard walk of fame one for her contribution to the film industry and the second for her contribution to television.

De Carlo was reputedly an intimate of Howard Hughes and played opposite some of the most desirable and bankable leading men in the Hollywood of the 1940s and 50s including But Lancaster and Charlton Heston.  She was a glamorous pin up girl who helped raise the morale of troops in the second world war but to most people she will forever be remembered as Lilly Munster in the 1960s monster comedy series.

All of these achievements, appearances and accolades, however fail to underscore the most obvious attribute Yvonne De Carlo possessed in abundance and that is that in her prime, which lasted quite a while, she was smoking hot.

Jayne Mansfield - how do we love thee let us count the ways.

Jayne Mansfield was a member of the 'Blonde Bombshell' posse of the 1950s and 1960s who, on her own admission, rose to fame on the captivating magnetism of her curvaceous figure and prodigious cleavage.

Like so many others of her generation of movie stars, sex symbols and 'beautiful people' her flame burned ever so brightly and ever so briefly only to be tragically snuffed out prematurely.

A contemporary of Marilyn Monroe Jayne did not go by her own hand as Marilyn did but instead fell victim to a tragic motor vehicle accident leaving behind her young family.  She was 34 years old when she died.

Jayne Mansfield's legacy has, however, lived on.  Her daughter Mariska Hargitay, who was a passenger in the accident that claimed her mother's life, has gone on to make her own way in tinsel town and doing so on the strength of her father's name and not Mansfield.

Betty White - How do we love thee let us count the ways.

You just gotta love Betty White.  She is a grand damme of the showbiz industry and still comes out swinging most recently in a chocolate bar commercial where she's not affraid to take the piss out of herself. Also she's been around for ever! She was doing glam photoshoots back in the 40s and 50s and has always shown a very liberal attitude towards things such as sex and nudity.

She also has a really healthy perspective on things and a wicked sense of humour.

Prime example is one of my favourite Betty White quotes...

Also back in the day she was pretty damn fine...
